A photo taken of Miley Cyrus, topless, has ignited a storm of criticism of both Miley and her family. However, as more facts emerge concerning the infamous photo shoot, a life lesson is also emerging. That lesson is, be careful who you trust.
A major tabloid television show has reported that the infamous photo of Miley topless and covered by a sheet, was taken after her parents had left the photo shoot. The report also stated that the photographer talked Miley into posing for the shot in the absence of her parents, with only her grandmother and teacher present.

If this information is true, a person with common sense could conclude the following:
- Miley’s parents left the photo shoot satisfied with the photos that had been taken prior to their exit.
- Leaving the photo shoot, Miley’s parents probably thought any subsequent photos would be equally as satisfactory or that no additional photos would be shot.
- The photographer waited until after Miley’s parents had left the photo shoot to attempt to take the objectionable photograph.
- If the subject of such a pose had been talked about while Miley’s parents were present, Miley could have made a better decision about whether or not to pose for the photo, having the input and wisdom of her parents in the forefront of her thinking.

Final conclusion: The Cyrus’ were taken advantage of. The photographer took advantage of a fifteen year old girl in a way that could destroy her career and burden her with guilt that would be hard for an adult to bear. Stating that the objectionable photo was taken while Miley’s grandmother and teacher were present is no justification for what was done. Not everyone is savvy concerning the evil ways and wiles of some persons in the media entertainment industry. Did the photographer discuss the pose with Miley’s parents while they were present? If not, why not? Why ask Miley to pose for a photo that her parents might object to? Why ask Miley to pose for a photo that demonstrated a blatant disregard for the image of the Hannah Montana franchise? No matter how acclaimed this photographer is, why should any other celebrity with a wholesome image ever pose for this photographer? Entertainment stars and their families must be careful who they trust. Not everyone is happy one’s success or appreciates the hard work it takes to build a wholesome image in the entertainment industry.
How many parents of a fifteen year old can safely say that given the exact same circumstances, their fifteen year old would not have made the same mistake that Miley made – or worse? Persons who harshly criticize others in unfortunate circumstances usually end up in similar but worse circumstances. This follows two Biblical principles: “Judge not that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” Matthew 7:1,2 “Do not be deceived. God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7 Entertainment stars and their families should also be wary of the general public. Not everyone who claims to be a fan is a true fan. True fans are not judgmental, but understanding when mistakes are made, knowing that even entertainment stars and the families are not immune from making missteps or being despitefully used and abused.
It should be safe to conclude that the Cyrus’ regret leaving Miley at the photo shoot. It should also be safe to conclude that Miley’s grandmother has also been hurt by this incident, not realizing how her presence with Miley would be used to justify an action against her granddaughter that could only be described as despicable. As for Miley, I accept her apology, knowing that as stated by the words of one Hannah Montana song, “underneath it all I’m [Miley is] just like you [any normal teenager]”.
